The telephone is a technology that has become an integral part of our life
When I was a kid, the phone was this heavy thing that you rented from the phone company and the single biggest cause of a broken toe as you raced to answer it.
Then the phones had long cords so you could talk to your (not-really-dating) friend without anyone listening.
Then the phone became wireless. But, where did I leave it?!
And of course, the answering machine spawned a whole new genre of entertainment.
In 2020, the new form of entertainment is to see how that voice mail is automatically transcribed! No matter how bad it is, you can still make out the meaning in most transcriptions. I don't recall that last time I actually listened to a voice mail in full.
Oh yeah, do you remember having a password for your voice mail? That was awful.
Communication has changed.
Smartphones dominate the personal and business communications landscape and if you cannot make or take a business call directly on your mobile phone and or laptop, you're behind the times.
In fact, here are a few questions to ask yourself about your business communications capabilities system:
1. Can you make or take a call from your business extension directly on your mobile phone without anyone knowing you're on your mobile phone?
2. Can you make or take a call from your laptop?
3. Can you conduct a private video meeting with a team member and or a client? Assuming the answer is yes, can you also add a phone-only member to the meeting?
4. Can you setup a voice-only conference bridge directly within your phone system without using something like Zoom?
5. Are you still listening to voice mails?
6. Do you (need to) remember your voice mail password?
7. Are any of your team members working either from home or out of state
